Let's see how long my Wikipedia page on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reservoir_sampling lasts
If it doesn't get immediately deleted I wonder how long it will take to become the top-ranked page for the search [reservoir sampling]

People obsess too much about logfiles and not enough about events or the life-cycle of their application.

I use Upcoming for just about all my geeky events: http://upcoming.yahoo.com/user/96670/
It works if you live in a city with a critical mass of other users. Realistically that means London or San Francisco.
Are there viable alternatives to Upcoming?

I'm not sure if what we saw in San Jose was the Star Trek experience. I'm not sure it would have been up to the standards of Las Vegas as it was just an exhibition of lots of stuff from Star Trek inside a science museum.
CarCamp is best described by this: http://google-ukdev.blogspot.com/2008/11/carcamp-making-conferences-universally.html
It's a Google-internal distributed zero-budget unconference along the lines of BarCamp. I help run it.
